Privacy Policy
Overview
Vigil is an offline-first Android application. It does not connect to the internet, does not collect personal information, and does not transmit any data to external servers or third parties. All data you create in Vigil stays on your device.
Information We Collect
Vigil does not collect any personal information. The app stores the following data locally on your device, in the app's private storage directory, accessible only to Vigil:
- Alarm configurations (times, labels, repeat schedules)
- Alarm presets and preset names
- Automation rules you define (conditions and actions)
- Timer and stopwatch session state
- App preferences and settings
None of this data is linked to your identity, uploaded anywhere, or shared with any third party.
How We Use Your Data
Data stored by Vigil is used solely to operate the app's features on your device:
- Scheduling alarms at the times you configure
- Evaluating automation rules to trigger alarm changes
- Restoring app state between sessions
- Rescheduling alarms after device restart
Permissions Required
Vigil requests the following Android permissions to function correctly:
- POST_NOTIFICATIONS — to display alarm and reminder notifications on your lock screen and notification shade
- SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM — to schedule alarms at the precise time you set (required on Android 12 and above)
- USE_EXACT_ALARM — an alternative exact alarm grant used on some Android 13+ devices
- RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED — to automatically reschedule your alarms after your device restarts
- FOREGROUND_SERVICE — to run a reliable background process that ensures alarms fire even when the app is not in the foreground
- VIBRATE — to vibrate your device when an alarm fires
No permission grants Vigil access to your contacts, location, camera, microphone, or any other personal data.
Data Storage & Security
All app data is written to your device's internal private storage — a directory that is not accessible to other apps and is removed when you uninstall Vigil. No cloud backup or sync is performed by the app itself. If you have Android's built-in backup enabled, your device OS may back up app data to your Google account; this is governed by Google's privacy policy, not ours.
Data Sharing
Vigil does not share any data with third parties. There are no analytics SDKs, crash reporting services, advertising networks, or external APIs integrated into the app.
Deleting Your Data
You can delete all data stored by Vigil at any time by clearing the app's data in your Android settings (Settings → Apps → Vigil → Storage → Clear Data), or by uninstalling the app.
Children's Privacy
Vigil does not knowingly collect any information from children. The app collects no personal information from any user, regardless of age.
Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL with a revised effective date. Continued use of Vigil after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
