Tidings

Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 20, 2026 App: Tidings (Android) Developer: EnigmaMachineDev

Overview

Tidings is an offline-first Android application. It does not connect to the internet, does not collect personal information, and does not transmit any data to external servers or third parties. Everything you create in Tidings stays on your device.

Information We Collect

Tidings does not collect any personal information. The app stores the following data locally on your device, in a private application folder:

  • The people you buy for (the names and any per-person dates you enter)
  • Your occasions (their names, date rules, and scope)
  • Your assignments (which person is attached to which occasion, with per-person date and budget)
  • Your gifts (their details, pipeline stage, price, and notes, per year)
  • App settings and preferences (currency, reminder timing, and notification preference)

The names and dates you enter are the people you choose to track; they are not linked to your identity, uploaded anywhere, or shared with any third party.

How We Use Your Data

Data stored by Tidings is used solely to operate the app's features on your device:

  • Computing when each gift day falls and how close it is
  • Showing readiness and spend rollups against any budgets you set
  • Scheduling local reminders ahead of and on each gift day
  • Restoring app state between sessions

Notifications

Tidings can send optional local reminders for upcoming gift days — a lead-time nudge and a morning-of reminder. These are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device by Android's notification system; no reminder data leaves your phone, and no remote push service is used. You can disable notifications at any time in the app or in your Android system settings.

Export & Import

Tidings includes optional export and import features. You can export a full backup as a JSON file, or export your gifts and spend as a CSV file, through Android's standard share sheet. Importing a backup through Android's system file picker replaces your current data. Neither process routes data through any server — all file operations are local and on-device. You choose what you do with exported files.

Permissions Required

Tidings requests only the access needed for features you actively use:

  • Notifications — used to deliver the local gift-day reminders you enable. Required on Android 13 and later
  • Storage Access Framework — used for the optional import and export features through the system file picker and share sheet; no broad storage permission is required

Tidings does not request access to your camera, photos, contacts, location, microphone, or any other sensitive system resource. It does not read your device's contacts or calendar — every person and date is one you enter yourself.

Data Storage & Security

All app data is stored in a private application folder that belongs to Tidings and is not accessible to other apps. This data is removed when you uninstall Tidings. If you have Android's built-in backup enabled, your device OS may back up app data to your Google account; this is governed by Google's privacy policy, not ours.

Data Sharing

Tidings does not share any data with third parties. There are no analytics SDKs, crash reporting services, advertising networks, or external APIs integrated into the app.

Deleting Your Data

You can delete all data stored by Tidings at any time from within the app (Settings → Erase all data), by clearing the app's data in your Android settings (Settings → Apps → Tidings → Storage → Clear Data), or by uninstalling the app.

Children's Privacy

Tidings does not knowingly collect any information from children. The app collects no personal information from any user, regardless of age.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL with a revised effective date. Continued use of Tidings after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
