Privacy Policy
Overview
Temperance is an offline-first Android application. It does not connect to the internet, does not collect personal information, and does not transmit any data to external servers or third parties. All data you create in Temperance stays on your device.
A Note on Scope
Temperance is a personal tracking tool, not medical advice. It records only the numbers and limits you choose to enter. It does not estimate intoxication or blood-alcohol level, judge fitness to drive, recommend a limit, or make any health claim.
Information We Collect
Temperance does not collect any personal information. The app stores the following data locally on your device, in a private application folder:
- Your logged drinks (a timestamp for each, plus any optional title, notes, tags, or price you add)
- Your limit settings (whether daily and weekly limits are enabled, the per-weekday daily limits, and the weekly limit)
- App preferences (week start day, day-rollover hour, currency symbol, and your saved tag suggestions)
None of this data is linked to your identity, uploaded anywhere, or shared with any third party.
How We Use Your Data
Data stored by Temperance is used solely to operate the app's features on your device:
- Displaying your daily and weekly counts against any limits you set
- Coloring the calendar and calculating your statistics, patterns, and streaks
- Restoring app state between sessions
Export & Import
Temperance includes optional export features. You can export your full data as a JSON file, or your drinks as a CSV file, through Android's standard share sheet. Import is handled through Android's system file picker and replaces your current data. Neither process routes data through any server — all file operations are local and on-device. You choose what you do with exported files.
Permissions Required
Temperance requests only the access needed for features you actively use:
- Storage Access Framework — used for the optional import and export features. Android manages file access through the system file picker and share sheet; no broad storage permission is required
Temperance does not request access to your camera, photos, contacts, location, microphone, or any other sensitive system resource.
Data Storage & Security
All app data is stored in a private application folder that belongs to Temperance and is not accessible to other apps. This data is removed when you uninstall Temperance. If you have Android's built-in backup enabled, your device OS may back up app data to your Google account; this is governed by Google's privacy policy, not ours.
Data Sharing
Temperance does not share any data with third parties. There are no analytics SDKs, crash reporting services, advertising networks, or external APIs integrated into the app.
Deleting Your Data
You can delete all data stored by Temperance at any time using the in-app "Reset all data" option, by clearing the app's data in your Android settings (Settings → Apps → Temperance → Storage → Clear Data), or by uninstalling the app.
Children's Privacy
Temperance does not knowingly collect any information from children. The app collects no personal information from any user, regardless of age.
Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL with a revised effective date. Continued use of Temperance after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
