Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 31, 2026 App: Tally (Android) Developer: EnigmaMachineDev

Overview

Tally is an offline Android application. It makes no network requests of any kind — there is no account, no sync, and no connection to any food database, nutrition service, or third-party API. It does not collect personal information and does not transmit any data to external servers. Everything you enter stays on your device.

Information We Collect

Tally does not collect any personal information. The app stores the following data locally on your device, in a private application folder:

  • The foods you add — names, brands, tags, notes, the nutrition figures you enter, and any densities or portions you define
  • The recipes you build, their ingredients, and the finished weights you record
  • Your food log — what you logged, how much, in which unit, on which day, and any notes you attach
  • Your calorie limit and any macronutrient goals you choose to set
  • Weigh-ins, if you turn on the optional weight-tracking feature
  • App settings and preferences, including your meal slots and day rollover hour

None of this data is linked to your identity, uploaded anywhere, or shared with any third party.

No Food Database

Tally ships with no food knowledge at all. There is no built-in food database, no barcode scanner, no photo recognition, and no lookup service. Every food in the app is one you created and every nutrition figure is one you typed in or imported from a file you supplied yourself.

Health & Fitness Data

The dietary information and body weights you record in Tally are health data, and they are treated accordingly: they are stored only on your device, they are never transmitted anywhere, and they are not used for any purpose other than displaying them back to you. Tally does not read from or write to Google Fit, Health Connect, or any other health platform, and requests no permission to do so. Weight tracking is off by default and is enabled only if you choose to turn it on.

How We Use Your Data

Data stored by Tally is used solely to operate the app's features on your device:

  • Working out what a given amount of one of your foods is worth in calories and macronutrients
  • Totalling a day's entries and showing them against the limit you set
  • Dividing a recipe's ingredients by the finished weight you measured
  • Producing averages and charts over the days and weigh-ins you have recorded
  • Restoring app state between sessions

Export & Import

Tally includes optional backup and export features. You can export everything as a single JSON file, or export just your foods, your recipes, a date range of entries, or your weigh-ins, through Android's standard share sheet. You can import a Tally export through Android's system file picker. Neither process routes data through any server — all file operations are local and on-device, and any file you import is one you supply yourself. You choose what you do with exported files, and where they go.

Permissions Required

Tally requests only what the operating system needs for the optional import and export features:

  • Storage Access Framework — used for import and export through the system file picker and share sheet. On older Android versions this appears as the general storage permission; Tally uses it solely to read a file you pick and to write a file you asked to export, and never browses or reads storage on its own.

Tally does not request the camera, your contacts, your location, the microphone, or notifications, and it holds no internet permission at all — the released app is built without it, so it is not merely unused but absent. The app sends no notifications and has no reminder feature.

Data Storage & Security

All app data is stored in a private application folder that belongs to Tally and is not accessible to other apps. This data is removed when you uninstall Tally. If you have Android's built-in backup enabled, your device OS may back up app data to your Google account; this is governed by Google's privacy policy, not ours.

Data Sharing

Tally does not share any data with third parties. There are no analytics SDKs, crash reporting services, advertising networks, or external APIs integrated into the app.

Deleting Your Data

You can erase all data stored by Tally at any time from within the app (Settings → Import / Export → Erase all data), by clearing the app's data in your Android settings (Settings → Apps → Tally → Storage → Clear Data), or by uninstalling the app.

Not Medical Or Dietary Advice

Tally records what you tell it and reports arithmetic over it. It makes no health claims, gives no dietary guidance, and does not recommend a calorie limit, a macronutrient split, or a body weight. Any targets in the app are ones you chose. It is not a substitute for advice from a qualified healthcare professional.

Children's Privacy

Tally does not knowingly collect any information from children. The app collects no personal information from any user, regardless of age.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL with a revised effective date. Continued use of Tally after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
