Privacy Policy
Overview
Chronos is an offline-first Android application. It does not connect to the internet, does not collect personal information, and does not transmit any data to external servers or third parties. All data you create in Chronos stays on your device.
Information We Collect
Chronos does not collect any personal information. The app stores the following data locally on your device, in a private application folder:
- Your time banks (names, descriptions, budgets, and allocation settings)
- Your activities (names, colors, and time allocations)
- Your cycles and tracked sessions (allocations, carried-over surplus or debt, and time spent, with timestamps)
- App settings and preferences (timer mode, rollover and refresh behavior, notification preferences, and display options)
None of this data is linked to your identity, uploaded anywhere, or shared with any third party.
How We Use Your Data
Data stored by Chronos is used solely to operate the app's features on your device:
- Displaying your banks, activities, balances, and history
- Tracking time against activities and calculating remaining balances, surplus, and debt
- Scheduling overage alerts when a tracked activity runs out of allocated time
- Restoring app state between sessions
Notifications
Chronos can send optional local notifications to alert you when a running activity reaches the end of its allocated time. Notifications are scheduled locally on your device using the Android notification system — no remote push service is used. You can disable notifications, or silence an in-app alarm, at any time in the app settings or in your Android system settings.
Export & Import
Chronos includes an optional export feature. You can export your full data as a JSON file through Android's standard share sheet. Import is handled through Android's system file picker. Neither process routes data through any server — all file operations are local and on-device. You choose what you do with exported files.
Permissions Required
Chronos requests only the permissions needed for features you actively use:
- Notifications — used to alert you when a tracked activity runs out of time. Required on Android 13 and later
- Storage Access Framework — used for the optional import and export features. Android manages file access through the system file picker and share sheet; no broad storage permission is required
Chronos does not request access to your camera, photos, contacts, location, microphone, or any other sensitive system resource beyond the above.
Data Storage & Security
All app data is stored in a private application folder that belongs to Chronos and is not accessible to other apps. This data is removed when you uninstall Chronos. If you have Android's built-in backup enabled, your device OS may back up app data to your Google account; this is governed by Google's privacy policy, not ours.
Data Sharing
Chronos does not share any data with third parties. There are no analytics SDKs, crash reporting services, advertising networks, or external APIs integrated into the app.
Deleting Your Data
You can delete all data stored by Chronos at any time by clearing the app's data in your Android settings (Settings → Apps → Chronos → Storage → Clear Data), or by uninstalling the app.
Children's Privacy
Chronos does not knowingly collect any information from children. The app collects no personal information from any user, regardless of age.
Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL with a revised effective date. Continued use of Chronos after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
