Privacy Policy
Overview
Manifest is an offline-first Android application. It does not connect to the internet, does not collect personal information, and does not transmit any data to external servers or third parties. Everything you create in Manifest stays on your device.
Information We Collect
Manifest does not collect any personal information. The app stores the following data locally on your device, in a private application folder:
- Your locations, containers, items, and activities (their names, hierarchy, placement, sizes, tags, and notes)
- Check-out status (which items are currently out, an optional purpose, and timestamps)
- Photos you choose to attach to a location, container, or item
- App settings and preferences (such as your preferred label layout)
None of this data is linked to your identity, uploaded anywhere, or shared with any third party.
How We Use Your Data
Data stored by Manifest is used solely to operate the app's features on your device:
- Browsing your locations and displaying what each holds
- Resolving an activity into a room-by-room retrieval plan
- Tracking what is checked out and helping you put it back home
- Generating printable container labels and QR codes on your device
- Restoring app state between sessions
Export & Import
Manifest includes an optional backup feature. You can export your data (including your photos) as a single JSON file through Android's standard share sheet, and import one through Android's system file picker. Neither process routes data through any server — all file operations are local and on-device. You choose what you do with exported files.
Printing & QR Codes
Container labels and their QR codes are generated entirely on your device. Printing uses Android's built-in print framework; no label data is sent to us. The QR codes encode only a local app link (for example, manifest://container/<id>) that opens Manifest to that container on your device.
Permissions Required
Manifest requests only what the operating system needs for optional features you choose to use:
- Camera — only when you choose to take a photo of a location, container, or item
- Photos / media — only when you choose to attach an existing photo from your library
- Storage Access Framework — used for the optional import and export features through the system file picker and share sheet
Photos you attach are copied into Manifest's private application folder and are not shared with any third party. Manifest does not request access to your contacts, location, or microphone.
Data Storage & Security
All app data, including attached photos, is stored in a private application folder that belongs to Manifest and is not accessible to other apps. This data is removed when you uninstall Manifest. If you have Android's built-in backup enabled, your device OS may back up app data to your Google account; this is governed by Google's privacy policy, not ours.
Data Sharing
Manifest does not share any data with third parties. There are no analytics SDKs, crash reporting services, advertising networks, or external APIs integrated into the app.
Deleting Your Data
You can delete all data stored by Manifest at any time from within the app (Settings → Erase all data), by clearing the app's data in your Android settings (Settings → Apps → Manifest → Storage → Clear Data), or by uninstalling the app.
Children's Privacy
Manifest does not knowingly collect any information from children. The app collects no personal information from any user, regardless of age.
Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL with a revised effective date. Continued use of Manifest after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
